As the snow starts to fall don’t forget about taking care of your back!
One of the most common causes of back injuries in the winter months is snow removal. Not caring for your back properly and then going out to shovel snow can lead to serious back injuries such as muscle strains or disc herniations.
The following tips can help you avoid unnecessary lower back injuries during the upcoming snowy season:
1.) Get Adjusted! Periodic maintenance visits to your chiropractor BEFORE injury is always a great way to prevent back injuries.
2.) Warm up- Stretch your muscles before you go out to shovel:
- You can do specific low back stretches to help loosen your low back muscles. If you don’t know any low back stretches contact your chiropractor and he/she should be able to provide you with some.
3.) Get an ergonomic shovel for snow removal that reduces the amount of lifting strain puts on your back.
